2018 – A Summary

A servant’s heart does not only mean that you put other’s needs ahead of your own but also to serve with the right motivation.

The year 2018 was full of choir services among others and our plate was definitely full was a busy year for the Dubai Vocal Ensemble. The choir engaged in various church activities and external performances.

Kicking off January, the group performed at St Mary’s Family Fest Celebration on 20 January 2018. The group sang the song Circle of Life. The kids (and adults alike) from the audience enjoyed the performance — hearing the animal sounds, experiencing and enjoying the wonderful song arrangement.

The new members were given their necessary group orientation on 09 February. The 10 new members were welcomed to the group.

In God’s perfect timing, Mr Lester Delgado, composer and choir master, visited UAE and gave the group a voice clinic on 23 April 2018. This was perfect as the group was preparing for their various choral festivals due for the year.

Sharjah Choir Festival was held on 28 April 2018. The group sang Cantate Domino, Waway, Paruparong Bukid and William Tell Overture.

On 03 May 2018, DVE flew to Tblisi, Georgia and joined the 2018 Tblisi Choral Festival. The group performed in various venues in Tblisi and was even featured in various Georgian publications aside from the local Emirati features. The all-Filipino group captured the Georgian hearts as they sang in the two-day festival.

Come 29 September 2018, the group joined the other Filipino St Mary’s church choirs to showcase the annual HARANA KAY MARIA concert held at the BISHOP GRIMOLI HALL.

The group capped off 2018 by celebrating the Christian Voices Chorale’s 14-year anniversary. The party, held at Ramada Hotel in Deira, Dubai, was surely a success The Council shown off a suprrise dance number and while the Aspen group of ladies sang an Abba song. Other groups also performed. A big ‘Kudos!’ to the CVC Newbies for hosting this party.  

CVC tops Bayanihan Christmas Carol Competition in Dubai

The Christian Voices Chorale won the Bayanihan Christmas Carol Competition. CVC bested 3 other  groups who sang various Christmas Melodies to bring the Christmas cheer to the Filipino community.

The choir performed Jingle Bells, Sa Paskong Darating and Carol of the Bells at the event.

The festival is an annual event hosted by the Consulate General of the Department of Foreign Affairs in Dubai and Norther Emirates. Various activities were created to cater the different passions of the Filipino people. From fashion to dance, food and music, the Choral Festival was hosted by the Festival to enliven the Christmas spirit in the community.

The Dubai Vocal Ensemble Bags Choir of The Year Title

Choir of the YearThe Dubai Vocal Ensemble (DVE) was proclaimed the winner of the recently concluded 1st Annual Choir of the Year competition last Friday, 15th February 2013, hosted by UAE’s The Score.

The DVE won over choirs from the whole of UAE which includes Blue Fever from Abu Dhabi, Nassim Al Saba Choir of the American University of Sharjah and other various choral groups from the country. The competition was judged by the Grammy Award Winning a cappella group The Swingle Singers at the Dubai College. The different groups performed a variety of songs from Arabic to Jazz. DVE performed Ralph Manuel’s Alleluia, the Visayan folk song Rosas Pandan and the ethnic song Kruhay.

The judges were overwhelmed by the performance and described it as electrifying and emotional. Watch the video here.
